Today, my heart experienced an array of emotions as I embarked on a sacred pilgrimage to Compassion Church of the Nazarene.
This marked the 14th chapter in my quest to visit every Christian church in my city as the Holy Spirit called me to do.
…but little did I know that this chapter would etch a one of a kind mark on the canvas of my faith journey.
This Church Is Where Love Finds Its Voice!
Stepping onto the grounds of Compassion Church, I was immediately greeted by Pastor Cavan’s warm smile. His eyes radiated a sense of warmth that seemed to say, “You’re not just a visitor; you’re part of the family.”
That embrace extended beyond mere words as Pastor Cavan guided me through the church’s sanctuary and its many corridors, graciously giving me a tour before service began.
This Is A Church Where Faith Blossoms!
Pastor Cavan painted a vivid tapestry of a church alive with the pulse of ministry.
The vibrant Kids and Youth ministry breathed life into the sacred halls, while the Community Food Pantry’s noble mission testified to the church’s commitment to nurturing not only souls but also bodies in need.
Compassion Church members and Pastors feed over 75 families per week and not only distribute food but offer prayers and compassion. This is a place of safety where those facing food insecurity can come and get what they need with dignity and love.
As someone who personally has experienced the hardships of not having enough to make ends meet, this really touched my heart.
This Church Is A Haven of Compassion!
But beyond the ministries and the programs, it was the love that enveloped the air that left me awe-struck. The hugs, the smiles, the outstretched hands – they weren’t just gestures; they were conduits of Christ’s love.
In that moment, I understood that Compassion Church wasn’t just a building; it was a living, breathing testament to God’s love for humanity.
Through the introductions Pastor Cavan facilitated, I met a mosaic of souls, each with their unique stories woven into the grand tapestry of faith. Pastor Brad, Pastor Caleb, Pastor Jonny, and Pastor Gary – they weren’t just leaders; they were beacons of compassion. Among them, Linda shone brightly, embracing me as if I were an old friend, making me feel cherished and valued and inviting me to sit with her, and to take a selfie. The world needs more Linda’s.
I met so many wonderful people today, and although I’m not able to mention everyone specifically, I’m so grateful for each of the connections made.
The worship that followed was an incredible experience. A symphony of voices united in praise. Pastor Mike and his daughter led the worship team with fervor, not just in song, but in spirit and truth. The choir with their hands lifted high and joyous smiles on their faces… spoke volumes about the heart of this church.
In one particular moment, the church faced each other, united in prayer…and it was hard to not begin weeping over the love displayed.
I was so excited to see so many friendly faces I knew, Doug Fry’s presence brought a rush of memories from the past, a reminder of how life’s paths intertwine in the most unexpected ways. Torrie’s warmth affirmed that this church wasn’t just a gathering of strangers; it was a community of souls bound by faith.
What touched me profoundly was the church’s commitment to live out their faith. The actions spoke louder than words – the vibrant groups of various ministries, the tireless efforts in the food pantry, the warmth that enveloped newcomers like me – all of it spoke of a faith that was alive and full of Jesus.
Pastor Stephen’s voice carried the weight of divine authority as he unraveled the message from Ephesians 2. The net and knot he held in his hand were more than just props; they were symbols of the interconnectedness of humanity in Christ. We weren’t just observers; we were vessels of divine love. We became the nets of God!
As the service drew to a close, I found myself enveloped in the warmth of newfound friends. Pastor Stephen’s words resonated within me as he urged us to find a church home, a place where our faith could flourish. I realized that Compassion Church wasn’t just a place to visit; it’s a sanctuary where hearts are transformed and everyone is welcome. It’s a place where you use the gifts and talents that God gave to you to serve and love your neighbors.
As I left Compassion Church of the Nazarene this morning, I carried with me a heart brimming with gratitude. This wasn’t just a visit; it was an immersion into a community of faith and love. My soul was nourished, my spirit renewed, and my faith fortified. I extend my heartfelt thanks to each member that opened their arms and hearts to a stranger, making me feel like family. Thank you for making me feel like I belong, and thank you for making me feel loved.

So glad you felt the same warmth, acceptance, and authenticity that first drew my husband and I to Compassion Church during Covid. This is a beautiful description of our church. After four years of attending we still feel everything you’ve described in this summary. Please come back and visit us again.
