1007 5th Street Lynchburg, VA
As I continue my calling to explore all of Lynchburg’s Christian churches, the 21st stop on this spiritual journey unfolded at the doorstep of Fifth Street Baptist Church.
The warmth emanating from Ted and Terry’s welcoming smiles as we entered the parking lot marked the beginning of a day woven with grace and compassion.
This Is A Church With A Mission To Serve Jesus!
Beyond mere greeters, these gentlemen, with hearts of pure kindness, assisted in parking for those with mobility challenges, exemplifying the church’s commitment to inclusivity and care. Ted and Terry escorted my daughter and I to the church door, arm in arm, in a gesture that made us feel right at home.
The effervescent Ronetta, offering warm hugs and greetings in the parking lot, set the tone for a morning not just of attendance but of being cherished. She made sure we did not feel like strangers!
This Is A Church That Loves God and Loves People!
The significance deepened as my dear Uncle Tim and Aunt Patti, visiting from out of town, joined me and my daughter in this sacred space. The anticipation of sharing the worship experience at Fifth Street Baptist Church with them added an unforgettable layer of joy to this Sunday morning. This is a day I will always treasure spending with my family.
Walking through the church’s halls, a kind gentleman, Curtis, not only greeted us but generously allowed me to capture a moment, a gesture emblematic of the openness of this beautiful church.
This Is A Church That Makes You Feel At Home!
Francis, another soul showing love and kindness, ensured that our sense of belonging transcended mere welcome.
As we stepped into the sanctuary, a palpable sense of reverence infused the air, carrying the unmistakable fragrance of holiness.
Youth Sunday unfolded with a unique charm, marked by a casual “come as you are” dress code.
The melodic notes expertly played by Jabari filled the space, eliciting a worshipful atmosphere.
The congregation, clapping and dancing to the lyrics of “Glory and Honor,” resonated with a profound sense of gratitude to Jesus. The soul-stirring rendition of “I’d Like To Recommend You To The Lord” with Nyla and Valencia became a poignant moment, drawing tears not just from me but also from my uncle.
Pastor Jones and the worship team continued to create a space of spiritual richness, singing “Just Hold Onto Jesus and You Can Ride Out Your Storm” with an intensity that stirred our very souls. It was also a joy to see the Pastor joining in with the tambourine throughout the morning.
October, being Pastor Appreciation month, we witnessed various ministries presenting heartfelt gifts to Pastor Jones and First Lady Jones. A woman’s heartfelt words about giving flowers to people while they are alive brought forth more tears, underscoring the depth of connection within the congregation.
In a touching moment, a precious young child, Liam, led the entire congregation in prayer, expressing gratitude for “all the people in his church.” What a blessing to be a small part of his prayer this morning.
Witnessing such a pure and heartfelt moment was a privilege that left a permanent mark on our hearts.
The pre-sermon prayer for congregation members as the prayer list was read out loud, a thoughtful touch, showcased the church’s commitment to caring for its flock.
Pastor Jones, in his sermon titled “God Uses Our Small Gifts to Do Great Things” from 1 John 6:9, offered a fresh perspective on the story of the little boy’s small gift. His infusion of humor and modern-day application resonated deeply, making the sermon relatable and easy to understand.
My entire family, deeply moved by the experience, spoke of the warmth and love we encountered at Fifth Street Baptist Church.
I wholeheartedly recommend a visit; their love, kindness, and vibrant congregation create an atmosphere that not only invites you to linger but also beckons you to become a part of their spiritual family.
To each member, though unnamed here, your compassion and love have not only left an enduring imprint on my heart but have also extended the boundaries of fellowship. This church embodies a profound commitment to serve Jesus, and your congregation’s loveliness is truly remarkable. Thank you for this cherished visit; it’s a memory I will hold dear forever.
