Greater Grace Chapel- Lynchburg

201 Sweeney Circle Forest, VA

As I continue my exhilarating exploration of Christian churches in our city, my spiritual journey led me to Greater Grace Chapel, which marked my 23rd stop on this remarkable odyssey.

From the moment I arrived at this house of worship, it was evident that they truly embody their mission statement: “Real People – Authentic Grace!”

The authenticity and grace I encountered at this spirit-filled church left an unforgettable impression on my heart.

Upon my arrival, I was warmly greeted by several people who were busily preparing the sanctuary for the upcoming service. Their kindness and hospitality made me feel at home instantly, as if I were part of the family.

The congregation here is more than just a community; it’s a genuine, loving family.

The church’s pastor, Rob, took a moment to introduce himself and engage in a real, authentic conversation with me. He provided valuable information about the church, yet it was more than that; it was a connection that assured me that I had indeed found my place on this particular day.

Their commitment to making newcomers feel welcomed is truly commendable.

The church even offers a super cool coffee bar known as “Grounds for Grace.” The aroma of coffee wafted through the air, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere.

It’s a testament to the care and attention to detail that this congregation invests in ensuring that every visitor feels welcomed and valued. I was even gifted with a travel mug and pen that I plan on using frequently.

As I entered the sanctuary area, my eyes were immediately drawn to banners and signs with the words “family,” “grace,” and “welcome.” But it was clear that these were more than just words on a sign; they were the embodiment of what this church stands for.

The people themselves radiated warmth and a true sense of belonging, making me feel like part of their faith family.

My early arrival allowed me to attend the Bible Study session before the service. Little did I know that this would be an eye-opening experience. Elder Corey, who led the class, masterfully broke down complex theological concepts in a way that was not only understandable but also deeply relevant to our world today.

He shared profound insights, delving into Greek definitions such as “axios,” “phos,” “zoe,” and “diogmos.” The class was fully engaged, and the questions and discussions were thought-provoking. I left with a newfound understanding of “Acts 13”, what a blessing to share in the knowledge and wisdom within these walls. Elder Corey has a true gift from God.

As the Bible Study session concluded, there was a time of fellowship before the service. During this time, I had the pleasure of meeting many of the church’s attendees.

Two beautiful young ladies, Michelle and Carol, who are twins… with big smiles, graciously agreed to take a photo. It was clear that the spirit of unity and love that permeates this church extends to everyone.

Although I can’t specifically mention every name, each person I met today made me feel valued and cherished. The impact of their kindness and warmth will stay with me always.

Another touching moment during my visit was witnessing the entire congregation join in singing “Happy Birthday” to Steve. I LOVE the sense of community and camaraderie that thrives within these walls, where even the smallest moments are celebrated with love.

My friend, Andrea Plunkett, known to many as the owner and talented voice behind “Singagram”, is a part of the exceptional worship team at Greater Grace Chapel.

Her solo performance was filled with deep emotions as she soulfully sang the words, “In the middle of the hardest fight, I will rescue you.” The love and compassion she exuded during her performance were truly amazing.

The entire worship team is remarkable, hearing them sing the lyrics “In My Father’s House, there’s a place for me…I’m a child of God” was incredibly moving. I found myself fighting to hold back tears. I hope that everyone has the opportunity to experience this and feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as I did during my visit.

This congregation is not just a community; it’s a close-knit family. From the warm greetings to the profound lessons shared during Bible Study, it’s clear that Greater Grace Chapel is a place where everyone, including newcomers like me, feels like we are part of the family immediately.

This is a church that not only talks the talk but walks the walk when it comes to embracing all who enter.

The sermon began with a heartfelt prayer led by Pastor Rob, setting a sacred tone for what was to follow. He then made some quick announcements and took a moment to introduce me to the congregation, extending a warm welcome. This simple gesture, again, made me feel like I belonged here…

The worship service took place under the theme of “Faith without seeing.”

Pastor Rob delivered a message infused with humor, real-world application, and a genuine, high-energy celebration of Jesus. He spoke about the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones and not becoming complacent.

It was a message that resonated with me and my journey, reminding me that God’s call often leads us into uncharted and sometime uncomfortable territories.

The highlight of the service was Pastor Rob’s preaching and a deeply moving teaching on moving from desperate faith to deliberate faith.

The sermon asked profound questions about what we, as Christians, are truly running toward and where we find our refuge. This thoughtful reflection brought me to tears and prompted moments of deep introspection.

Before concluding the service, we bowed our heads in prayer, uniting our hearts and spirits in faith. Many in attendance graciously agreed to stay for a group photo, capturing the sense of community that defines this church.

I wholeheartedly recommend Greater Grace Chapel to everyone seeking a place where the Holy Spirit’s presence is undeniably felt.

My visit was an encounter with the Holy Spirit in a way I had never experienced before, and I pray that you, too, have the chance to experience the love and warmth that radiates from this congregation.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Greater Grace Chapel for the warmth, love, and kindness they extended to me. Their welcoming smiles, open hearts, and genuine care left an enduring mark on my spirit.

From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this is a community driven by faith and bound together by love.

I eagerly anticipate the next church on this extraordinary journey. With each visit, another broken piece of myself is being healed. I’m excited to continue this voyage, ready to embrace new lessons, receive fresh blessings, and be enveloped by the love of Jesus.

As my heart remains open and my spirit is eager, I move forward with gratitude and anticipation, knowing that in each sacred space, there’s a revelation waiting, a blessing ready to be received, and a family of faith prepared to embrace me.

  1. Thank you Annie for your gracious words. It felt like another family member joined us this morning instead of a visitor. May you be blessed as you continue this journey and bring the light of Christ to the community.
