Bedrock Lynchburg

3408 Old Forest Road, Lynchburg VA

Continuing my journey to explore every church in our city, I was blessed with the opportunity to visit Bedrock Lynchburg, marking it as the 58th church on this spiritual journey as guided by the Holy Spirit.

Stepping into this church, I was immediately embraced by a sense of deep faith and community.

The vision for the Bedrock Community began in 2008 when Pastors Jonge Tate, Chris Dowd, and Jeremy Minor planted a church in Bedford, Virginia that initially met in the local YMCA.

After steady growth and God’s blessing, the congregation moved to the auditorium of Liberty High School.

Following their desire to plant more churches, God called Bedrock to establish locations in various places, including the Lynchburg site I visited today.

Something that spoke deeply to my heart was how Bedrock Lynchburg embodies a community focused on serving.

As Jesus said in Mark 10:45, He came “not to be served, but to serve.”

Following His example, the Bedrock family actively seeks opportunities to serve others, both locally and globally. Their mission is to meet people’s physical needs and initiate conversations that introduce them to Jesus, who can meet their spiritual needs.

I arrived much earlier than the service time this morning. Although you might find an 8:00 a.m. service time online, the services actually begin at 8:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, Elder Buck approached me and made sure I felt completely welcomed and at home.

Despite being in the middle of preparing for the service, he took the time to have an authentic conversation, showing kindness, compassion, and love. Thank you, Elder Buck, for your graciousness today.

As I made my way through the sanctuary, I spoke with many members of the congregation, including a couple visiting for the first time like me. When I asked what makes this church special, I received a variety of answers: community, family, and preaching style.

However, the most common response was about the people having servant hearts.

One member shared a story about attending for the first time while the church was transitioning locations. She was impressed by how everyone joyfully pitched in to help with setting up chairs, and anything needed without hesitation.

The worship team at Bedrock Lynchburg is phenomenal. PHENOMENAL.

Truly gifted, the music moved me to tears. Singing the lyrics “Rain Came, Wind Blew but my House was built on YOU” and “In My Father’s House, there’s a place for me” was a deeply emotional and spiritual experience.

I also had an amazing conversation with my friend Phil and his beautiful wife, further adding extra joy to my visit.

Elder Buck delivered a powerful sermon that I know was meant for me today.

He spoke about enduring faith and the importance of truth.

Using relatable examples from his days as a carpenter, he discussed the significance of building a strong foundation, much like his failed attempt at constructing a stairwell.

His message reminded us that we are living for an audience of one—God—and it we need to handle things rightly.

I left the service pondering the questions he posed: Are we teachable, and are we teaching others?

I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to visit this Spirit-filled church and experience the love and compassion they freely give.

Bedrock Lynchburg is a place where faith, community, and service come together to create a welcoming and loving environment.
