108 Melinda Drive, Lynchburg VA
Visiting Providence Church on Melinda Drive was the 65th stop on my journey to visit every church in my city, and what a blessing it was.
From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and handshakes, which instantly made me feel welcomed.
A kind woman took the time to guide me around the church, helping facilitate an introduction for me to take photographs of many of the beautiful members.
She prayed for me and encouraged me, moved to tears by my story and what I have overcome only through Jesus.
It was heartwarming to see Elder David Cooper and his family there.
David and I were in a networking group about 15 years ago, and it was lovely to reconnect.
Another kind member thoughtfully explained that their communion service might be different from what I was accustomed to, and I appreciated her guidance on what to expect.
As the service began, we sat in silent meditation while the beautiful hymn “Round the Lord in Glory Seated” was played on the piano.
I found comfort in the church bulletin, which clearly laid out the service order.
There was an exhortation titled “Nothing is Hidden” and a prayer of confession, during which everyone kneeled in silent prayer. Despite the awkwardly shaped corner of the pew, I did my best to kneel down.
We sang “The Lord’s Prayer,” singing it always moves me deeply.
Pastor Jody Simmons delivered a powerful sermon on “Being Patient in Affliction.”
He reminded us that, while we may not understand everything God does, we know that the Lord judges His enemies and brings salvation to His people.
He emphasized the importance of learning to be patient and waiting in peace, reaffirming that God is faithful.
His words resonated deeply with me, offering both comfort and encouragement.
Before the service, I had a wonderful conversation with Pastor Jody and his wife.
They made me feel at home and truly welcomed.
The church was full of beautiful people who extended open arms and engaged in meaningful conversations with me.
After the service, most of the members stayed to fellowship after, and it was heartwarming to see all of the children playing and laughing and really enjoying church. The kids were also enjoying lollipops that were handed out by the doors.
I encourage everyone to visit Providence Church and experience the same warmth and love that I felt today.

This visit will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of their community, even if just for a day.
I am eager to see where the Holy Spirit leads me next week.

Hi Annie!
I have been attending Providence for a little over four years and had the same welcome you received, though the congragation was much smaller then and met in a gymnasium!
We love the word of God, worship and fellowship. I’m glad you were able to experience these things with us!
