Higher Heights Cathedral of Deliverance

725 Mansfield Avenue, Lynchburg VA

Today was an extraordinary blessing as I was finally able to return to in-person worship after battling hypoglycemic episodes and spending the last couple of weeks recovering in the hospital.

The journey back to the church seats felt both emotional and sacred, as I stepped into Higher Heights Cathedral of Deliverance, the 85th church on my Holy Spirit-led mission to visit every church in my city.

Though I carried a bit of anxiety with me, uncertainty about how my body would hold up, nervousness about rejoining the rhythm of in-person fellowship, God, in His perfect timing, led me exactly where I needed to be.

From the moment I stepped into the sanctuary on this cold and wintry day, I was overcome with the warmth and love radiating from this incredible church family.

Every person I encountered absolutely showed the love of Jesus, making me feel seen, cared for, and deeply valued as a sister in Christ.

People often ask me if I’ve had a favorite experience on this journey, and while each church has offered something unique and meaningful, I can confidently say that this visit to Higher Heights Cathedral of Deliverance is one of the most loving and impactful experiences I’ve ever had.

The congregation went above and beyond to make sure I felt welcomed, and their kindness felt so genuine, the very embodiment of God’s love in action.

From the moment I walked in, hugs were freely given, smiles were abundant, and conversations were heartfelt.

I overheard one member describe this congregation as “the happiest church,” and after spending just a few moments there, I couldn’t agree more.

Their joy was infectious, and the atmosphere of love and gratitude for God’s presence was tangible. It became immediately clear that this is a praying, Spirit-filled church… a place where miracles happen and where Jesus is truly the center of everything.

The service began with heartfelt praise, and it felt as though every arm was lifted high in surrender to Jesus.

Hearts were raw and vulnerable as the entire congregation came together to worship with such purity and reverence.

Bishop Motley Davis set the tone for the service by reminding us that we must honor the Lord for His presence, it was a sacred moment to have a heart-to-heart talk with our Creator.

In that time of worship, I laid my struggles before God, begging Him for healing… not just for my physical health but also for the bitterness and unforgiveness that I have been carrying from the sexual and physical abuse I endured as a child.

This journey to visit every church in my city has been a deeply personal act of obedience, and I know that God is using it to help me break free from the chains of my past.

Higher Heights Cathedral of Deliverance felt like a safe space to bring my brokenness to the feet of Jesus, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

I loved how the church opened the floor for prayer requests, encouraging everyone to share honestly and vulnerably. It was a reminder that we all carry burdens, and when we bring them into the light and lift them up together, God moves in miraculous ways.

Deacon Sam led us in a beautiful and heartfelt prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to move among us.

The worship that followed was simply electric. Led by a radiant woman whose energy lit up the entire room, we sang powerful hymns like “Blessed Assurance” and “How Great Thou Art,” and lots of beautiful songs that had us dancing and shouting with joyful abandon.

I was moved to tears seeing the congregation worship so freely and authentically.

As one member said, “We don’t dance because it looks good; we dance because we owe God our praise.”

There was no holding back, every song, every shout, every clap was an offering of gratitude and love to our King.

It was a reminder that true worship is not about performance but about surrender, celebration, and connection with God. This is a church that genuinely appreciates the glory of God, and their passion for worship is deeply inspiring.

The highlight of the service was the sermon delivered by Pastor Angela Davis, and what a powerful word it was.

She began by recapping Part 1 of her message from the previous week, which focused on walking in the Spirit and choosing daily to align ourselves with God’s will.

She reminded us that the world will try to fill our cups with things that are not good for us, but each day, we must habitually walk with the Holy Spirit and allow Him to fill us with what we truly need.

Today, she went even deeper, addressing what we need to remember when we feel like God is silent.

Like the story of David, she spoke of how God wants to pull out of us what He has already placed in us. Even in seasons of grief, doubt, or unexpected stuff, God’s goodness remains, and He is working for our ultimate good.

Pastor Angela’s message was a beautiful reminder that while life’s trials may feel overwhelming, they are refining us and drawing us closer to God.

She also emphasized that peace is not external—it’s a condition of the heart that comes from resting in Christ. The world may try to steal our peace, but when we are rooted in Him, that peace is eternal and unshakable.

Pastor Angela’s passionate delivery, combined with her relatability, made this message one that I will carry with me for a long time.

The love and care of this congregation didn’t stop with the service.

Afterward, many members took the time to speak with me, pray over me, and offer words of encouragement for my journey.

Each hug, each kind word, and each heartfelt prayer was a reflection of God’s love, and it reminded me of the beauty of the body of Christ.

Higher Heights Cathedral of Deliverance is a church that truly reflects its name, it lifts you higher and brings you closer to the heart of God.

I left feeling encouraged, renewed, and deeply grateful for the time I spent there. This church has left a permanent mark on my heart, and I know I will carry this experience with me for years to come.

As I continue this journey of faith and healing, I am reminded once again of God’s incredible love and His ability to meet us right where we are.

Higher Heights Cathedral of Deliverance was exactly what my heart needed in this season, and I am so thankful for the way God continues to use these visits to teach me, grow me, and heal me.

I encourage everyone to visit this Spirit-filled church and experience the joy, love, and power of their worship for yourself.

As for me, I am eager to see where the Holy Spirit will lead me next, knowing that with every step, God is mending the broken pieces of my heart and revealing His perfect plan for my life. Thank you, Higher Heights Cathedral of Deliverance, for showing me the love of Christ in such a profound way.
