Gospel Community Church- College Hill

1101 Floyd Street, Lynchburg VA

Today marked another incredible milestone on my journey, as I had the joy and honor of visiting Gospel Community Church–College Hill, the 102nd church in my heartfelt mission to experience every church in our city.

Each step of this journey has been guided by the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit, but today’s experience touched my soul in a uniquely profound way.

As I arrived at the Floyd Street location, a deep sense of anticipation and peace enveloped me.

I had visited Gospel Community’s Rivermont location early in my journey, but today felt especially significant.

I soon discovered exactly why my heart was so drawn here.

From the very moment I walked through the doors, I felt an atmosphere of warmth, authenticity, and genuine welcome.

Almost immediately, I was invited downstairs for a pancake breakfast, a delightful surprise that made me feel instantly connected to this loving community.

The lively basement echoed with joyful conversations and laughter.

A kind and gracious young woman named Katie made her way over to me, engaging in heartfelt conversation and making sure I felt valued, seen, and included.

I was deeply encouraged to see such a diverse mix of generations in attendance, particularly a large number of young people.

Excitement was in the air as five students were preparing to publicly declare their faith through baptism.

Witnessing such genuine passion in young hearts was profoundly uplifting.

I took the opportunity to learn more about the mission of Gospel Community Church, which deeply inspired me.

This church family is committed to wholeheartedly following Jesus wherever He leads, no matter the cost. They cherish historical Christian truths and are intentional about deepening their walk with Christ through genuine obedience, prayer, silence, solitude, and meaningful Sabbath rest.

They seek to live authentically, reflecting Christ’s love not just in words but in everyday actions.

As I connected with various members, I had the distinct privilege of meeting a wonderful and beautiful woman named Sarah.

Sarah’s presence was filled with genuine kindness, empathy, and compassion, and she spoke to me with a vulnerability and openness that truly touched my heart.

Sarah is the kind of person our world desperately needs more of, one who intentionally makes others feel deeply cared for and valued. Her words and spirit left a lasting impression, and I pray she realizes how significantly she impacted me today.

Entering the sanctuary took my breath away.

Its serene beauty and reverent atmosphere made me feel closer to God immediately.

The worship team was exceptional, leading us into heartfelt praise with passion and authenticity.

People freely lifted their hands and voices, worshiping without reservation, creating a sacred space where the presence of God was undeniably tangible.

One of the most moving parts of today’s visit was observing a dedicated prayer room, where individuals gathered in small groups, praying fervently, comforting one another, and pouring out their hearts before the Lord.

Witnessing such sincerity and vulnerability in prayer was profoundly moving.

The centerpiece of the visit was Pastor Jonathan Ignacio’s powerful sermon titled, “Break the Soil.”

This message was meant for my heart this morning, addressing exactly what my soul has been wrestling with in recent days.

Pastor Jonathan spoke tenderly yet boldly about the importance of breaking up the hardened places within our hearts, seeking God through rhythms of intentional rest, and practicing the Sabbath as a defiant yet beautiful act against a world driven by hurry and worry.

He reminded us that our hearts become attuned to what we pay attention to… if we focus on fear and anxiety, they grow; if we intentionally nurture trust and hope in God, peace and strength flourish.

Through this message, he taught us that the Psalms give voice to our deepest emotions, giving permission to bring our hardest questions to a compassionate and attentive God.

At the conclusion of the sermon, we celebrated as five precious young lives boldly declared their commitment to Jesus through baptism.

My eyes filled with tears of joy, knowing heaven itself was rejoicing with us.

Before I left, I was blessed to exchange a heartfelt hug and brief conversation with Pastor Andrew, expressing my sincere appreciation for the authenticity and loving atmosphere within this beautiful church family.

Leaving Gospel Community Church–College Hill, I carried a renewed sense of gratitude, hope, and purpose.

This visit not only encouraged me deeply, but also reminded me how beautifully God works through community, drawing us together to heal, support, and love one another.

To everyone who smiled, embraced, welcomed, and encouraged me today, thank you from the depths of my heart. You’ve left a loving mark on this journey of faith, healing, and restoration.

I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to visit Gospel Community Church and experience the genuine love, rich community, and vibrant faith that fills this sacred space.

I’m filled with anticipation to see where the Holy Spirit leads next as this remarkable journey continues!

God is so good, and I am so grateful for another day to love and serve.
