Family Life Church- Lynchburg

22059 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg VA

In the midst of my heartfelt journey to discover and visit all of our city’s churches, I was gently led by the Holy Spirit to Family Life Church, marking the 37th chapter of this deeply personal quest.

The moment I set foot within this sacred space, it was clear that this was a community eager to embrace every soul with love and warmth.

Kim, a radiant Life Group leader, graciously offered her time to guide me through the church, sharing passionately about the vibrant life of the congregation, the classes, and the groups that form the heartbeat of this spiritual family.

Dominique, whose kindness illuminated the café, made it more than just a space—it was a place where fellowship brewed alongside the coffee. (Their cafe does not charge for any refreshments, offering all food and drinks at no cost.) The cafe was full of beautiful people, many who graciously agreed to take photos.

The depth of care for children and young adults was evident in the numerous classrooms and programs, each a testament to the church’s dedication to nurturing young hearts and minds. The security measures in place spoke of a community not just open but also protective and vigilant, a true family in every sense.

Arriving early allowed me the privilege to immerse myself in the serene beauty of the sanctuary.

Dim lights cast a peaceful glow, creating a sacred canvas upon which beautiful prayers were being painted before the service commenced.

The worship team, a dynamic ensemble of at least a dozen members, brought the sanctuary to life with their joyful praises and harmonious melodies.

The moment they began singing “I’m running with Jesus,” my heart recognized the voice of the Holy Spirit.

The song resonated with my own journey, echoing my silent prayers for strength and help with my mobility challenges.

And then the next song, with the lyrics “Let me walk upon the water” “where feet may fail” unfolded before me, leading me to tears with the assurance that He will walk with me beyond where my feet have ever dared to wander.

A profound moment of divine serendipity occurred when I noticed the message on the shirt of the gentleman sitting before me – “Impossible is Overrated.”

It was a clear sign, a divine whisper, affirming that my presence here, today, at this moment, was no coincidence but a part of a greater tapestry being lovingly woven by the hands of God.

Pastor Sharon McQueen’s voice filled the air, her welcome enveloping everyone in a blanket of love and affirmation.

As Apostle Ray McQueen led the congregation in prayer, a profound sense of unity and purpose settled among us.

His sermon on “Praying in the Spirit,” drawing from Ephesians 6:18 and 2 Timothy 3:16, was a powerful call to create a culture of prayer, to lay the foundations of our lives in communion with God, seeking His perspective first in all we do.

Apostle Ray’s storytelling of the church’s 26-year journey was a story of faith, resilience, and divine provision.

His humor, coupled with a down-to-earth preaching style, made the message of prayer not just a sermon but a transformational experience. He spoke of the Holy Spirit’s role in our prayer life – prompting us, enabling us, and empowering us – igniting a spark of understanding and conviction within my heart.

The sermon’s conclusion was a beautiful symphony of prayer, a collective moment of seeking and surrendering to God’s will.

Apostle Ray’s insights into how the Holy Spirit teaches us to pray the will of God was a revelation that touched the deepest corners of my soul.

As I left Family Life Church, my heart was full of gratitude and joy. The genuine love and warmth of this congregation are a beacon of light in our community.

I encourage everyone to visit this special place, where you are not just welcomed but embraced as family.

My journey continues, each step a melody guided by the Holy Spirit.
