2812 Greenview Drive, Lynchburg VA
Today, as I walked the path set before me by the Holy Spirit, I found myself at the welcoming doors of Tree of Life Ministries, marking an important milestone as the 38th church visited in my heartfelt quest to experience the spiritual heart of Lynchburg.
The moment I stepped into Tree of Life Ministries, I felt a profound wave of peace and encouragement wash over me, there was something truly remarkable about the spirit-filled atmosphere of this sacred place.
The warmth of the welcome I received was truly touching.
Dwayne Ross and Shirley, two beautiful souls, greeted me with open arms, their smiles reflecting the love and light of the church. They graciously offered to capture the moment in photographs, a gesture that spoke volumes about their kindness and hospitality.
As I walked towards the front of the beautifully adorned Sanctuary, every face I passed was a picture of welcome and warmth.
Each step brought me closer to the heart of this church family, and as I captured moments in photos, I felt an overwhelming sense of belonging.
Finding a seat close to the front row, I settled in, ready to immerse myself in the service.
Before long, Raquel, a kind-hearted member of the congregation, approached me. With a gesture as simple as it was profound, she invited me to sit with her so I wouldn’t be alone. In that moment, her kindness transformed my experience, making me feel not just welcomed, but cherished.
Conversations flowed naturally, and soon I was introduced to Maryanne, whose love for this church family was palpable in every word she spoke.
I also had the privilege of meeting Pastor Jim and his wife Karen, who, after searching for a church home across many places in our city, found their spiritual haven at Tree of Life Ministries.
Before the service even began, a powerful scene unfolded at the altar.
Many congregants made their way forward to pray, kneeling in earnest supplication. Witnessing this raw display of faith and devotion was an emotional experience, stirring something deep within my soul.
The worship team, a group of incredibly talented individuals, led us in a musical journey that elevated every heart in the room.
Songs like “Echo (In Jesus name)” and “You are worthy of it all” filled the sanctuary with beautiful praise. But it was the song “Praise,” with its lyrics “As long as I’m breathing, I’ve got a reason to praise,” that ignited a fervent energy among the congregation.
The sight of everyone jumping, shouting, and praising the Lord with unbridled passion was a testament to the deep love held for Jesus.
Pastor Mike Dodson guided us gently into the heart of the service, starting with a scripture reading from John 15:1 and leading us in prayer.
His sermon on deception and betrayal wasn’t just powerful—it was life-changing.
Pastor Mike emphasized the magnificence of Jesus, reminding us that no amount of praise could ever truly match the sacrifice Jesus made for us. The atmosphere was charged with a holy reverence as we all absorbed every word.
The way Pastor Mike intertwined humor with profound theological insights made the message not only relatable but deeply impactful.
His unique perspective on Judas’ betrayal was unforgettable, offering a fresh understanding of the disciples’ confusion and Jesus’ response during those trying times.
The engagement with the congregation was beautiful. Pastor Mike’s skillful way of making biblical truths accessible and inviting us to dive deeper into our faith was truly masterful.
His promise of more insights in the following week’s sermon left everyone in joyful anticipation.
As the service drew to a close, a moment I’ll never forget unfolded.
Pastor Mike took my hand and offered a deeply personal prayer for my life and my journey. In that moment, I felt seen, known, and loved—not just by the pastor, but by God who meets us exactly where we are.
I left Tree of Life Ministries with a heart full of gratitude and eyes brimming with tears.
The love, the compassion, and the genuine sense of community I experienced here were beyond words.

This journey to Tree of Life Ministries has been more than just a visit—it’s been a divine appointment, a reminder that in every church, in every gathering of believers, there is an opportunity to encounter God in new and life-changing ways. I can’t wait to see where the Holy Spirit leads me next.

Hi! I very much enjoy your posts each Sunday and also following along on your journey to visit each church in the city.
My question is you mention several times in different posts, that you have taken photos. Are these photos available for view somewhere or are they just your personal photos?
Thank you again for sharing this experience!

Hello, Thank you for coming out to Tree of Life Ministries today. I’ve been reading your posts since moving here very recently and love each and every one. I am now a part of Tree of Life and love, love, love being there. I love dancing, jumping and singing, and I am just overjoyed when worshipping (I was there in the 2nd row right next to Maryanne (I’m printing out your e-mail as I’ll see her in a few hours). And yes, Pastor Mike is truly a man of God who speaks Bible truth with no sugar-coating it. I’d encourage you to come out to a Saturday night worship at 7pm. It is casual with a different worship team that is also amazing and the message is with Pastor Ray who has a special anointing. I’d love the opportunity meet you for breakfast or casual dinner one day (even before a Saturday night service). As I stated above, I just moved here from out-of-state, as well as my brother who is now employed at Liberty University. Just let me know. My information is below.

I’m so blessed that you were blessed by our family today. As one of the ministers of the church, who also am part of the praise team, but was singing in the choir today (I was the one in the center of the choir with 🎤 in hand on the song “Praise” in the colorful cross shirt, 😆) my wife ( the person seated on the choir) and I too were welcomed by that same love for more than 15 years or so. We’ve known Pastor Mike for about 35 years and he has always been the same and a great friend. The love of TOLM is genuine and infectious and I’m glad you were able to experience it. God bless you abundantly on your journey!
