City Presbyterian Church

2805 Old Forest Road, Lynchburg VA (Lower Level)

Today marked a significant milestone in my ongoing mission to explore the spiritual landscape of Lynchburg by visiting every Christian church in our city.

Stepping through the welcoming doors of City Presbyterian Church, I felt a profound sense of anticipation, knowing that this visit would be a special milestone as it marked one year into my spiritual journey.

City Presbyterian Church, the 52nd stop, unfolded as a sanctuary of warmth and spiritual depth, offering a new layer of understanding and connection to my journey.

Located in the lower level of Forest Road United Methodist Church, City Presbyterian Church exuded a sense of love and compassion from the moment my daughter and I arrived.

We were warmly greeted by Greg and Jeff, who took the time to share insights about the church and make us feel instantly at home.

Learning that the church had only recently relocated to this new venue, having previously been situated downtown, added to the sense of excitement surrounding our visit.

Despite its small size, the congregation of City Presbyterian Church radiated with joy and hope, creating a truly special atmosphere that enveloped us from the moment we stepped inside.

Every member of the church extended a warm welcome, engaging us in thoughtful conversations and displaying genuine interest and support as they sought to get to know both myself and my daughter on a deeper level.

The worship experience at City Presbyterian Church was nothing short of AMAZING.

Led by the beautiful worship team, we were swept away by the soul-stirring melodies of beautiful hymns….

One particular hymn, “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah,” resonated deeply with my soul, the lyrics touching the very core of my being as we sang of being fed by the Bread of Heaven, both now and evermore.

It was a moment of profound spiritual connection that brought tears to my eyes, as I felt the presence of God surrounding us with His infinite love and grace.

In the absence of their regular preacher, we were blessed to hear a sermon from Thom Provenzola, a local professor in our community. It was a true blessing!

His sermon, titled “Nature Encounters the Son Of Man,” was a beautiful exploration of the parallels between nature and the Divine.

Drawing from examples in literature, including elements from “The Lord Of The Rings,” Thom skillfully wove together a powerful lesson on the limitations of human nature and the transcendent power of Jesus Christ.

It was a thought-provoking message that offered new insights into the disciples’ perspectives and the timeless truths found in scripture.

Following the service, we were warmly invited to join the church for a Cinco De Mayo taco meal, where we enjoyed fellowship with the beautiful church family.

It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, conversation, and shared experiences, further reinforcing the sense of community and belonging that permeated City Presbyterian Church.

My visit to City Presbyterian Church was a deeply enriching and spiritually fulfilling experience.

I wholeheartedly recommend visiting this special church and experiencing the love and warmth of its congregation firsthand.

As I continue on my journey, I am grateful for the lessons learned and the connections made, and I eagerly anticipate the next chapter guided by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
